Mr Paul O'Sullivan AO

17 October 2013

Mr Paul O'Sullivan AO CNZM will commence as my Chief of Staff on 1 November 2013.

Mr O'Sullivan's long experience at the highest levels of government include service as Director-General of ASIO, a Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador to Germany, High Commissioner to New Zealand and National Security Adviser to Prime Minister John Howard.

The appointment will underline the strong national security focus which I intend to bring to the Attorney-General's portfolio.

The willingness of a person of Mr O'Sullivan's standing to serve in this position reflects the very high quality of the people who have accepted senior appointments with the Abbott Government.

I thank him for his willingness to serve Australia, once again, in this important role.
