NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS CONSULTATION REPORT
30 September 2009
Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, today received the report of the National Human Rights Consultation Committee.
“The Committee has conducted the most extensive consultation on human rights issues in Australia’s history,” Mr McClelland said.
The Committee received more than 35,000 submissions and conducted over 65 community roundtables and public hearings in more than 50 urban, regional and remote locations across the country.
“I would like to thank the Committee for its work in preparing this important report and providing an invaluable opportunity for the Australian Government to hear the range of community views about how we can protect and promote human rights and responsibilities.”
The Government will release the Consultation Committee’s report and outline a formal response in the coming months.
