COUNTER-TERRORISM TRIAL SENTENCES

Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, today acknowledged the sentences imposed by the Supreme Court of New South Wales in the trial of five individuals convicted of terrorism offences.
This concludes the longest and most complex federal counter-terrorism case in Australia’s history, with the trial extending over nearly a year and involving approximately 300 witnesses, 3,000 exhibits and 30 days of surveillance evidence.
The Government acknowledges the dedicated work of all involved in the proceedings including the Court, members of the jury and legal representatives.
The Government also commends both State and Commonwealth security, intelligence and law enforcement agencies for their cooperation and dedicated work over a number of years.
The case demonstrates how our agencies continue to work cooperatively and effectively to enforce Australia’s counter-terrorism laws.
