Security in Government Conference Turns 20

The 20th annual Security in Government (SIG) Conference gets underway in Canberra today and will examine the future of security.

"The national security environment has changed dramatically since the inaugural SIG Conference in 1987 and for the 20th anniversary it's timely to look ahead to the future," Attorney-General Robert McClelland said.

"The SIG Conference is the largest conference of its type in Australia and allows senior representatives from the private and public sector to examine the current security environment and how it will change in the future.

"An impressive line up of speakers will examine issues including harnessing science, engineering and technology capabilities to better deal with our evolving security landscape."

The SIG 2007 trade show will be on again and is bigger than ever before with more than 100 of Australia's largest security firms showcasing state-of-the-art security products and services.

Speakers include Secretary of the Attorney-General's Department Robert Cornall AO, Chief of the Defence Force Angus Houston AO AFC, and the Director-General of Security at ASIO, Paul O'Sullivan.

Attorney-General Robert McClelland will address the Conference on Friday 7 December.

SIG 2007 starts today and continues until Friday at the National Convention Centre in Canberra. For further details about SIG 2007 visit: http://www.ag.gov.au/sig
