NEW SERVICES FOR CHILDREN ACROSS AUSTRALIA
Attorney-General Robert McClelland is today pleased to announce the locations for a new program supporting children dealing with parental relationship breakdown.
“The Supporting Children after Separation Program will help children whose parents decide they can no longer live together,” Mr McClelland said.
“It will focus on the needs of children and help them deal with issues arising from the breakdown of their parents’ relationship.”
“The program will support these children through a range of counselling and group activities, including allowing them to have a say in the separation process.”
The 18 locations across Australia are:
- New South Wales: Sydney, Newcastle, Gosford-Wyong, Wollongong;
- Victoria: Melbourne, Geelong;
- Queensland: Brisbane Region, Bundaberg, Caboolture, Cairns, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba;
- Western Australia: Perth;
- South Australia: Adelaide;
- Tasmania: Greater Hobart;
- Australian Capital Territory: Canberra; and
- Northern Territory: Darwin.
On 14 April 2008, the Attorney-General’s Department will advertise for applications from community organisations interested in running the Supporting Children after Separation Program in each location.
Services are expected to open by the end of November 2008.
