Judge Ciara Tyson has been appointed as a judge of the Family Court of Australia.
Judge Tyson will commence her appointment on 22 February 2019 and will hold a dual commission as a judge of the Family Court of Western Australia (FCWA), having commenced in that Court on 7 January 2018.
Judge Tyson graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia in 1994 and was admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1996.
Following her admission, Judge Tyson practiced primarily in family law, across a number of firms in Australia and London. In 2006 she was appointed Partner with Watts McCray Lawyers, and later became Director with specialist family law firm Kim Wilson & Co. In 2015, Judge Tyson was appointed as a Magistrate and Registrar of the FCWA, prior to her appointment as a judge of the FCWA.
On behalf of the Government, I congratulate Judge Tyson on her appointment and thank her for her willingness to continue to serve the people of Australia as a judge of the Family Court of Australia.
