Appointments to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal

Seven new appointments and eight reappointments to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal are being announced today.

The Tribunal serves an important function of providing independent merits review and the Government is committed to ensuring the Tribunal has the resources it needs to provide high quality merits review with minimum delay.

These appointments will provide the Tribunal greater flexibility to effectively manage its workload as it continues to experience a significance increase in the number of applications being lodged. In particular, some of these appointments will also support the newly established Small Business Taxation Division within the Tribunal, which was created as part of the Government's Helping Small Business Grow Package.

The Government has made the following new appointments:

One full-time senior member

  • Mr Paul Fairall

Four part-time senior members

  • Mr Roger Hamilton
  • Mr Keith James
  • Ms Ann O'Connell
  • Mr Robert Olding

Two part-time members

  • Ms Rebecca Arends
  • Mr Robert Reitano

The Government has also made the following reappointments:

One part-time senior member

  • Dr Ion Alexander

Two full-time members

  • Ms Anna Burke
  • Ms Susan De Bono

Part-time members

  • Ms Kate Buxton
  • Ms Tina Bubutievski
  • Dr Sofia Khan
  • Ms Margret Bourke
  • Mr Alexander Byers

All of the appointees are highly qualified to undertake the important task of conducting merits review of government decisions, including in small business taxation matters.
