Judge Joshua Wilson and Judge Robert Harper have been appointed to the Family Court of Australia.
These appointments elevate Judge Wilson and Judge Harper from their current positions as judges of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia.
Judge Wilson will be assigned to the Melbourne registry, commencing on 11 March 2019. Judge Wilson was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1983 and called to the Victorian Bar 1987, where he practiced primarily in commercial law as well as family law.
Judge Wilson obtained a Master of Laws in 2006 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 2008, and was also appointed silk in 2008. He was appointed as a judge of the Federal Circuit Court on 2 November 2015 where he heard both family law and general federal law matters.
Judge Harper will be assigned to the Sydney registry, also commencing on 11 March 2019. Judge Harper holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney.
Judge Harper was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1985 and called to the New South Wales Bar in 1986. At the Bar, Judge Harper’s principal areas of practice included property and construction litigation, as well as extensive practice in family law. At the Bench, he has heard matters predominantly in the family law jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court.
