The Turnbull Government has reappointed Dr Denver Beanland as Chair of the National Archives of Australia Advisory Council.
The National Archives of Australia Advisory Council provides advice on matters relating to the functions of the National Archives of Australia.
Dr Beanland has made a valuable contribution to the work of the Council following his appointment as Chair in June 2015.
His reappointment will provide continuity for the current focus of the Council in modernising the work of the Archives.
Dr Beanland is a historian, holding a PhD in history from the University of Queensland.
He is a past President of the Royal Historical Society of Queensland and currently a member of the Society's Council, and he chairs the Brisbane City Council's Heritage Advisory Committee. He also served as a member of the Queensland Parliament from 1986 to 2001, having held the positions of Attorney‑General, Minister for Justice and Minister for Consumer Affairs.
I am sure that he will continue to provide excellent leadership to the Council.
The appointment is for a period of three years commencing on 30 June 2018.
I congratulate Dr Beanland on his appointment.
