Mr Michael Wheelahan QC has been appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia and will commence in the Melbourne Registry from tomorrow, 3 October 2018.
Mr Wheelahan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne in 1986, and was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1987.
He began his career as a solicitor with Madden Butler Elder & Graham and was called to the Victorian Bar in 1990 and was appointed silk in 2004.
Mr Wheelahan has extensive experience in civil litigation and has appeared in many leading cases, at trial and on appeal, across a number of areas of law including defamation, industrial law, negligence, breach of confidence, class actions, insurance law, administrative law, constitutional law, commercial law, and taxation.
