Council of the National Gallery of Australia welcomes new member
15 May 2014
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Calvert-Jones AM to the Council of the National Gallery of Australia.
Mr Calvert-Jones has significant experience in the philanthropic sector and has held a wide variety of community positions including in the arts sector.
Mr Calvert-Jones is currently a Trustee of the McClelland Gallery in Victoria and is a Director of the Kimberley Foundation Australia, which focuses on research as well as the preservation and promotion of Kimberley rock art.
I know he will bring his enthusiasm for the arts, his considerable business skills, extensive governance experience and his very strong networks to his role as a council member.
Mr Calvert-Jones previously served on the National Gallery council between 2006 and 2012. During that time he showed great passion and commitment to the work of the council and contributed significantly to maintaining the levels of private sector sponsorship and philanthropic support for the gallery in a challenging and difficult fiscal environment.
I am delighted that John Calvert-Jones has once again agreed to serve on the Gallery's council. Mr Calvert-Jones brings his considerable experience and influence as a community leader, arts patron and business professional to the Gallery. I look forward to working with him to ensure that the National Gallery of Australia continues to foster a greater understanding and knowledge of visual art.
The appointment is for three years.
