Appointments to Administrative Appeals Tribunal

I am pleased to announce 13 appointments to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

The AAT provides a one-stop shop for the independent review of a wide range of decisions made by the Australian Government.

The AAT’s members come from a wide range of backgrounds with expertise in areas such as accountancy, disability, law, medicine, migration, military affairs, public administration, science and social welfare.

The Government has made the following reappointments:

  • Three full-time senior members:
    • Mr Richard Ellis
    • Dr Nicholas Manetta
    • Ms Fiona Meagher
  • One full-time member:
    • Mr George Hallwood
  • Four part-time members:
    • Emeritus Professor Ronald McCallum AO 
    • Ms Sandra Taglieri SC
    • Mr Ian Thompson
    • Ms Frances Simmons

The Government has made the following new appointments:

  • One full-time senior member:
    • Ms Belinda Pola
  • One full-time member:
    • Ms Deborah Mitchell
  • Three part-time members:
    • Dr Peter Fricker
    • Mr Andrew George
    • Ms Donna Petrovich

All of the appointees have been appointed for a period of between five and seven years and are highly qualified to undertake the important task of conducting merits review of government decisions.
